An ammonite is the fossilized remnants of an ammonoid, which is a kind of long-extinct marine mollusc. In life, these animals resembled our modern-day nautilus’ – they are, however, more closely related to squids. The outer shell portions of ammonites are often iridescent, a quality that is highly valued. The yellow stone that can be found in the chambers of the shell is what remains of the flesh, which has fossilized into calcite. Energetically speaking, ammonites are traditionally carried for protection, ocean energy, long-term perspective shifts, and intuitive knowledge.
